Christmas 2014

Christmas was so fun this year! Leading up to it, I almost felt like it was going to be a wash, you know, considering we have a newborn, but it really wasn't. It was nice to remember that Christmas isn't about creating the picture perfect evenings of hot cocoa, pajamas and Christmas lights, but really about celebrating the birth of Jesus and the spirit of generosity with our families and friends. Our Christmas Eve tradition has been the same since we were little kids, and though we've made some changes as we've become parents, it continues to be one of my favorite evenings. We go to my mom's church and all the kids wear pajamas, so of course we had all our boys in matching jammies!

Then we went back to my mom's house for dinner, setting out cookies and fudge for Santa and then back to our house for bed! We read Canon the night before Christmas as well as the equivalent to Luke 2 in the Jesus Storybook Bible. (side note - we've been doing Advent readings from the Storybook Bible all month and he loves that book now! Every night he wants to read it!)

Christmas morning we were back at my mom's to see what Santa brought! The boys (3.5, 2, & 1) did a great job of waiting their turn to open presents and sharing all that they received. Like every parent, it is so much more fun to see the magic through my kids! Since seeing Cole use the potty at my mom's over Thanksgiving, Canon started asking for his own potty for Christmas! It was pretty cute, for the whole month we'd ask him "what do you want?" and he'd joyfully respond "a potty!!!". Then it was "a potty, a firetruck and a baseball." Not too hard to fulfill. And I'll tell you what, when he opened that potty, he laughed and jumped up and down and was SO happy. Such a fun moment.

Then it was off to Immanuel for Christmas Day service!

We spent the next few days opening presents from Aaron's side of the family and other family from out of town. Canon got an Art Easel from his grandparents in California and he loves it. Along with it they gave him dry erase markers, crayons and a magnetic nativity scene. All 3 have been a huge hit and provided him with lots of entertainment. He got Spiderman pajamas from Uncle Al and Ashley and they sent a onesie that says "Big Ben" for the baby! We got more books from my dad and lots of giftcards. We are so grateful for the outpouring of love towards our family! Thank you thank you!

going public

Well...there is not really any other way to say this but... Aaron and I are having a BABY! Yep, Baby Schultz should be arriving this Labor Day. We could not be more thrilled about the news! Once we got through the 12-week ultrasound, which is what this picture is from, we were ready to spread the news! I know there are still lots of people who should have gotten phone calls, and for that I apologize that you are finding out now, but I was just ready to get it out there! And now I will answer the questions that typically follow up this kind of announcement. 1. Were you trying? Well....not exactly. From the beginning I have felt pretty strongly that we were not in control of this whole baby-making situation. I have known many women who got pregnant on birth control, or when they didn't even know they could, and those who "planned" it and then it has taken longer than hoped. I've just always been pretty sure that when the Lord determined we were ready, He'd ...

Baby Boy #3!

We are expecting baby boy #3 and since I documented a good amount of my pregnancies with the older two, I want to at least start off giving this one the same treatment! I am due May 25th, though he'll probably come around the 18th by c-section. We found out in my 18 week appointment that we were having a boy and I can honestly say I've been super excited since. With two older brothers already ruining, I mean running, the house, I'm happy to bring another boy into our crazy. This pregnancy will always be remembered by having to have my gall bladder removed at week 11. As soon as I hit 6 weeks I started having intense gall bladder pain. I've dealt with gall stones since Canon was born, but they were always singular events that would pass in about 4 hours, and this pain was consistent and all day/night long. The doctors I saw encouraged me to manage it with diet and hope to get to 16 weeks before discussing surgery. I tried everything, which pretty much meant eating noth...

what's going on

We're starting to try some rice cereal. I've been pretty sporadic about it, but after his 6 month appointment (which is NEXT WEEK!) I'll start putting "solids" into our every day routine.      Canon has found his feet! Now every diaper change is just the most fun, trying to get those toes into his mouth!   Canon is officially rolling over, both sides! This particular picture happened when I had gone into my bedroom for a hot second and came out to find him on his tummy! He can do it regularly now, though he doesn't love being on his tummy and rolls back over quickly.  Other things going on: Canon is officially sleeping unswaddled!! I guess around 2 weeks ago, we started again with the one arm out and went from there. He now sleeps in a fleece sleep sack with arms. I'm not going to lie, the process wasn't quite as daunting as I had originally thought, but I think that is because we waited until he was really ready.  ...
