We are expecting baby boy #3 and since I documented a good amount of my pregnancies with the older two, I want to at least start off giving this one the same treatment! I am due May 25th, though he'll probably come around the 18th by c-section. We found out in my 18 week appointment that we were having a boy and I can honestly say I've been super excited since. With two older brothers already ruining, I mean running, the house, I'm happy to bring another boy into our crazy.
This pregnancy will always be remembered by having to have my gall bladder removed at week 11. As soon as I hit 6 weeks I started having intense gall bladder pain. I've dealt with gall stones since Canon was born, but they were always singular events that would pass in about 4 hours, and this pain was consistent and all day/night long. The doctors I saw encouraged me to manage it with diet and hope to get to 16 weeks before discussing surgery. I tried everything, which pretty much meant eating nothing, and it never went away.
Finally, around Halloween, I was so fed up that I just ate whatever I wanted because I was most likely going to be in pain anyway. 3 days into that (not so smart!) I took myself to the Emergency Room at 5am after a particularly painful night. It was horrible. They would give me pain meds through IV and I would sleep for about an hour. Then wake up vomiting until hour 2 when I could receive more meds.
Finally, around 10pm that night, I was wheeled into the OR. We had gone over all the possible risks, including miscarriage and birth defects, but I knew I needed that surgery. Not only was the pain unmanageable, but I had a peace about it. I knew that God was not surprised that I was 11 weeks pregnant and about to go into surgery, so He was going to do His will, no matter what that was. Of course I was pretty hopeful that it would end okay, but I still kept a little space in my mind for the other outcome. Thankfully it all ended well.
Recovery was hard, but after about 3 weeks I started to feel a lot better. And I could eat! After hardly eating for over a month, I can't say how awesome it was to be able to eat again - and with Thanksgiving just a week after that, I was in heaven! We had 3 ultrasounds in the weeks following the surgery and each one brought more and more relief to see that heart beating.
One funny thing I want to remember is that I was convinced I had a first trimester aversion to Aldi food. This fall we started doing the majority of our shopping there and for 8 weeks of morning sickness and gall bladder pain I refused to eat any food that was bought there. Aaron got so exasperated with me, and I'm sure he was right that it was all in my head, but I just couldn't do it. I am slowly recovering from that even still!
At 18 weeks Aaron and I found out the sex in the appointment, which is something we've never done before! What a joyful moment for the two of us to experience together. We spent the day together with our little secret and started talking about names and how crazy life with 3 boys will be! I told my mom over the phone, but we waited until Christmas to tell Aaron's family. We were all together for the first time in a few years and it was so special to surprise them too!
