Ben - 1 month

*posted at 6 weeks, but written around 5  Weight: ~12.5 lbs! This is somewhere in the 80-90th percentile! Eating: Still breastfeeding! Attempting to follow "Moms On Call", so he's eating at 7am, 9am, 12pm, 3pm, 5:30pm, 8:30pm and then I do a dream feed between 9:30/10:00 before I go to bed. He wakes up typically between 12:30 and 1:30, then again around 4:30am. (of course, there are variances on this, such as last night when he woke up at 11:30pm, 2:30am and 4:30am) Sleeping: Not terrible. He especially likes to be held, so will sleep contently and for a long time if this is the case. However, I prefer him to sleep in the rock n' play and he tends to wake up more if he is in that. His first nap happens in the car to drop Canon off, then he sleeps at 10am, 1:30pm, again in the car around 4pm, and 6:30pm before final bedtime around 8:30/9:00pm. His best nap is the 10am one. I typically have to come in around 2:30pm and let him sleep on my chest to get the most of...

Ben - the first month

Week 1 We were able to come home less than 72 hours after my c-section, which was awesome. Sitting in that hospital room was so uncomfortable and gave me too much time to think about what it was going to be like having two kids - I wanted to just be in it! We came home on a Thursday and had both boys that night. I remember we finally got through dinner and both of them to sleep and we just looked at each other like "wow, this is a lot of work!" I know it affected Aaron more than me, but it was certainly an overwhelming feeling. Ben just slept and ate mostly during this week. He was sleeping well in between feedings and I was having to set my alarm in the night to wake us both up to eat, usually at 1am and 4am and then up for good around 7. We had to go in to the pediatrician on Friday to weigh him, he was down to 8lbs 8oz I think. They had me start supplementing with formula, about 1 oz after each feeding. We went back Saturday morning and within 24 hours he had gained 7 ...

Benjamin's Birth

Ben was born on December 16 via a scheduled c-section. We gave him the full 40 weeks to come out on his own, but my body wasn't having it. He weighed 9lbs 9oz and was 21in! We woke up Tuesday morning and enjoyed getting Canon ready and off to daycare the 3 of us. We had been doing a lot of prepping with him, so he knew we were going to the hospital to have Baby Ben and that MoMo was going to pick him up and it was going to be "a party" with her!  We got to the hospital around 9:30am and by 10:30 we were in the pre/post operating room getting prepped. By 12 I was in the operating room getting my spinal tap. Oh man, that thing worked quickly!!! It wasn't 30 seconds before my toes started feeling all warm and they laid me down. Aaron came in and soon they were working on getting Ben out. I definitely couldn't feel any pain, but right at the point when they were pulling him out I felt a lot of pressure in my whole stomach/chest area.  As soon as he came out ever...

baby update

2 weeks out, at most. Hopefully sooner. Canon was a c-section due to "failure to progress", so I've essentially been weighing the decision all pregnancy on whether to schedule a 39 week c-section (which would be NEXT TUESDAY!) or try for a VBAC. I'll admit that both are very appealing to me, maybe even more so the scheduled c-section (an earlier arrival, further away from Christmas, it is what I know, etc), but I've decided to wait it out and see what my body can do. I've scheduled the c-section for my due date and am hoping that something will happen beforehand. I'll definitely go the epidural route and have been reading up on lots of birth stories to try and prepare my mind. Of course, at this point, every little twitch, stretch and discomfort I'm evaluating in hopes that its a contraction! I have to be honest and realize that my worst case scenario - laboring for a long time just to end up with a c-section - is also my most likely scenario, but I...

20 weeks & gender reveal!

Tuesday, July 29th marked the 1/2 point of this pregnancy! I can't even believe we're already this far along! I went in for an appointment the Friday before for our anatomy ultrasound. We immediately told her we did not  want to know the gender since we had this big reveal planned for Friday night. Everything looked healthy with our baby, so we rushed out of there to give our envelope to our wonderful accomplice, Meg.  Once Meg had opened the envelope (in the safety of her car away from us!) she went to the craft store and picked up 20 cans of silly string in the correct color. Lucky for all of us, the only part of the can that revealed the color was the cap, so she was easily able to rid any clues and get the string into our car for later in the evening (they unfortunately were going to be out of town, so couldn't partake in the actual event). She also ordered some "sweet treats" and dropped them off at the restaurant for later.  Finally , after naps and p...

17 weeks

I knew I was going to be sporadic with this, but some documenting is better than none! Here is 17 weeks, which was July 8. I had an appointment on July 10th and everything sounded great! 13 weeks

Canon has a lot of reading to do before December!  I was so excited to finally announce to the social media world last night that we are expecting baby #2. I knew almost immediately that I was pregnant, though it took a while for that second line to show up on a test! My own mother didn't believe me until I went and had a blood test done! We told our parents and siblings almost immediately. Our initial plan was to tell our works at 8 weeks, then everyone else after the 12 week appointment. However, I was seeing lots of college friends right after my initial 8 week appointment, so I had  to tell them in person. I also didn't try very hard to disguise that I wasn't drinking, so between a big Easter party and a wedding shower we threw, most friends up here figured it out quickly. Aaron also had a hard time not telling people. First it was just his 6th grade girls, then he "accidentally" told a few parents, then some moms in the church nursery....and well by our...
