what's going on

We're starting to try some rice cereal. I've been pretty sporadic about it, but after his 6 month appointment (which is NEXT WEEK!) I'll start putting "solids" into our every day routine.      Canon has found his feet! Now every diaper change is just the most fun, trying to get those toes into his mouth!   Canon is officially rolling over, both sides! This particular picture happened when I had gone into my bedroom for a hot second and came out to find him on his tummy! He can do it regularly now, though he doesn't love being on his tummy and rolls back over quickly.  Other things going on: Canon is officially sleeping unswaddled!! I guess around 2 weeks ago, we started again with the one arm out and went from there. He now sleeps in a fleece sleep sack with arms. I'm not going to lie, the process wasn't quite as daunting as I had originally thought, but I think that is because we waited until he was really ready.

stories p.1.2

I asked Aaron to "fill in the blanks" with his version of how we met, which you can read here . This is what I received... I'll never forget the day when Chuck, my principal/boss in New Orleans, called me into his office.  I walked into his office and the first thing he said to me was, "The Lord works in mysterious ways."  He then explained to me that there was this young lady who just moved to New Orleans and needed to be shown around the city.  He told me that her name was Katie and that she was working at a church in New Orleans.  Upon leaving Chuck's office, I rushed to the nearest computer - I had to look up this New Orleans church where Katie was working and hope that I would find a picture of her on their church website.  I found one.  Two things came to mind when I saw her picture: 1) This girl is gorgeous; 2) I don't stand a chance with her.  No joke ... those were the very two thoughts I had. I contacted her and it was arranged that I would p

Fit Challenge

My wonderful, loving, older sister convinced me to join a Fitness Challenge group. Its 45 days and here are the requirements:   1) Commitment to working out 5-6 times a week, either with a program of your choice (preferred - there is no wondering what to do with one of those!) or your own gym program. If you choose the gym program, I will ask you to state clearly what you are doing for the entire 45 days.   2) Commitment to better nutrition. Ideally this is partly in the form of Shakeology, a super high-quality protein shake - if you are drinking these daily, then I know you are getting one really amazing-for-you meal that you don't have to think about. But there will be other goals too!   3) Commitment to cheering on your fellow participants. We usually meet on Facebook, but if you are not on Facebook we can do it via email. Facebook is fun because of the sheer variety of motivation! The group on Facebook is SECRET, which means only the people in the group k

February (so far)

February has been a good month to us so far! We've had pretty mild weather - some snow, a lot of sun and some warm temps. We've been able to get out and go on lots of walks, especially thanks to our new stroller!  The past week was especially fun and full! Tuesday were the last regular season basketball games for Redeemer's JV girls, JV boys and V girls. All three games were away, but I convinced Aaron to leave school a bit early, come pick up Canon and I and take us up to the games. It was a late night, but so fun! Canon got to see lots of students and parents and despite missing a nap, he did great! I was so glad we got to be there for the kids last games.  Wednesday I finally got myself to a MOPS group. I've been craving some mom-friendships and I am so glad I found this group. It meets at Restoration Church which is walking distance from our house so even when we don't have the car we can still go! There were about 9 women and I am really hoping that these wi

Canon 5 months

Y'all.  We are SO lucky to have such creative, great friends!  Our friend Jackie, of Jackie Zoeller Photography , is a Childrens Photographer Denver and she offered to take pictures of Canon for a video she is doing about getting kids to smile naturally in photos. Well, let me tell you, she is a pro and had Canon smiling and laughing through the whole thing.  She let us have the pictures, but please go over to her blog and show her some love!  THANK YOU JACKIE & MATT!! They are all so great. I can't even begin to pick out my favorites.  And that hair, I had no idea it was that red! love love love

stories p.1

* this post has taken me quite some time to write, hence the reference to New Year's Eve As I was reminiscing this week about the day I told Aaron I was pregnant (New Year's Eve day 2011), I realized there are some stories that I would like to get down "on paper", namely how Aaron and I met/started dating, how he proposed, about our wedding, how I told him I was pregnant and Canon's birth story. So, with no further ado, here is the story of how we met, as told by me. Maybe one day I'll get him to write out his side of the story. It was January of 2010 and I had been living in New Orleans for about 6 months. Sally, the director of the Preschool at the church where I was working  sent me a facebook message asking if I wanted to meet someone. Obviously, I said yes. She told me later at work that his name was Aaron and that he was the 5th grade teacher at St. Paul Lutheran school, where she was on the Board of Education. The Board knew that he had received a

give a little love

This Valentine's Day, the best gift you could give me is a little click on the right. Yep, that's right, I'm asking for followers. I know that people read this thing....a) because often friends reference it, b) because people like the link on facebook and c) blogger records statistics of how many pageviews I get...and I know (slash hope) more than 8 people are reading. So, it'd be awesome of you to click the "join this site" button. Just to give a girl a little love and boost in her self-esteem. Thanks! And Happy Valentine's Day Week!!

22 weeks (5 months)

this kid cracks me up Just like every mom, I say this every month, but I can't believe he is already 5 months! I'm not going to lie, this event has really caused me to kick my mommy-ness into gear. It is time to get this kid together, ha! So this week I have been really intentional about making sure we get lots of tummy time in, practicing rolling over, lots of time in the bumbo chair and on the couch sitting up and being super silly to pull out those giggles! And honestly, we're having the best time! Not that I wasn't doing these things before, but I had a bit more laid back approach assuming that he'll just learn things on his own. And he will, but now I'm just more up in his face pushing him along! We got over being sick, for the most part, at the end of last week. Since he had been sick, I'd been rocking him a lot more, going into his room during naps/nighttime almost every time he cried, putting the pacifier back in his mouth, etc. Well, let me t

21 weeks

Well, this week certainly brought some new things. Sweet baby boy was sick! Runny nose, congested cough and constant red eyes. Thankfully, he did not have a fever! So we just used the nose bulb to get out as much stuffiness as possible and stayed in most of the week. We had a few great cuddle times and naps on me and other than not being able to breath, he didn't seem too affected!  And that is really about it!  I can't believe he'll be 5 months tomorrow!!!!!
