I asked Aaron to "fill in the blanks" with his version of how we met, which you can read here. This is what I received...
I'll never forget the day when Chuck, my principal/boss in New Orleans, called me into his office. I walked into his office and the first thing he said to me was, "The Lord works in mysterious ways." He then explained to me that there was this young lady who just moved to New Orleans and needed to be shown around the city. He told me that her name was Katie and that she was working at a church in New Orleans. Upon leaving Chuck's office, I rushed to the nearest computer - I had to look up this New Orleans church where Katie was working and hope that I would find a picture of her on their church website. I found one. Two things came to mind when I saw her picture: 1) This girl is gorgeous; 2) I don't stand a chance with her. No joke ... those were the very two thoughts I had.
I contacted her and it was arranged that I would pick her up Monday, MLK Day, at 4pm.
Even though it was supposed to take only 13 minutes for me to get to Katie's place, I left 30 minutes early; I had to be sure that I wasn't a second late. I arrived in her neighborhood with time to spare, about 15 minutes to kill. So, just a few houses down from Katie's, I pulled over and just thought about my gameplan - how was I going to introduce myself; what were we going to talk about; how would I compliment her, etc. At approximately 3:55 I drove down a few houses to Katie's.
I knock on the door and Katie's roommate answered. She said that Katie was in the back still getting ready. When I first saw Katie in the person, I was totally knocked off my feet. I vividly remember her walking up to me, the two of us greeting each other, and then I looked away ... because she was so beautiful, I couldn't hold eye contact with her. We go out to my Honda Civic. I start the car but let off the clutch too quickly and the car dies (the same thing happened to Drew Brees on his first date with his now wife).
On our drive to the French Quarter, I realized that this girl was a talker.
We parked on Esplanade, right off Bourbon. The rest is history. I'm now supposed to say how Katie talked too much, was perhaps a bit brash and had no tact. The truth is, I love her for these things. She may be a bit brash at times, but I can be too laidback at times. Katie may be really good at speaking her mind even when it seems like it's not an appropriate time, but then I can hold back when maybe I should be the one speaking up. This is who Katie is ... I love her for it. She's strong where I am weak. Katie completes me where I need completing. The best thing that has ever happened to me is Katie (Canon a close #2).
What a sweet guy, seriously. He's the best. But stay tuned to how I really convinced him to go back out with me.
