Christmas in California 2016

This Christmas we traveled to Aaron's home in California. Both his siblings and their families (in Alaska and Colorado) made the decision a few years ago that we would all get together this Christmas so we could spend it with everyone. It was so fun and I hope we make an effort to get everyone together in a few more years to do it again.

We left on Christmas Eve morning and had a surprisingly smooth trip. I wasn't too sure how the boys would do on the plane, it was an 8am flight and we'd been out of the house (awake) since 3:30am, but luckily they both slept for about half of the 5 hours. Things got a little stir crazy at the end, but I think that is to be expected. We rented a car easily and made the 3 hour drive up to his parents house, which again, went surprisingly well.

Canon and Hellen participated in the Christmas Eve service at Aaron's parent's church, as a Shepard and Angel. It was a cute kids service that didn't last too long. It was like 10pm east coast time when the service started and I was just impressed my kids weren't falling apart! Ben slept a little during.

We put the kids to sleep as soon as we got home and exchanged presents between adults. That is when we gave Aaron's parents the "little guy" onesie. Then it was off to bed!
Canon, of course, woke up at about 4:30 west coast time. Aaron took him upstairs and poor kid had to wait 4 hours before everyone else was awake to open presents. He was so patient though and I was pretty proud of him.

The rest of the extended Schultz family came over for a nice lunch into dinner. We mainly chatted and played with toys. We were very fortunate to get a big group and family picture with Aaron's grandparents, too!

The 26th - 28th were spent mostly with our immediate family. More games and toys, eating out, bowling and just being silly at the house!

Of course we had to get a comparison shot of these two. Ben is exactly 6 months older than his cousin Ezekial. The top picture was this past summer when Aaron took Ben out with him. Zeke loved having these boys around to play with!

Then it was a midnight flight back, connecting in Chicago, and landing in Baltimore on Thursday morning. We had such a wonderful time and the boys were SO spoiled by Aaron's family. It was a great Christmas!

going public

Well...there is not really any other way to say this but... Aaron and I are having a BABY! Yep, Baby Schultz should be arriving this Labor Day. We could not be more thrilled about the news! Once we got through the 12-week ultrasound, which is what this picture is from, we were ready to spread the news! I know there are still lots of people who should have gotten phone calls, and for that I apologize that you are finding out now, but I was just ready to get it out there! And now I will answer the questions that typically follow up this kind of announcement. 1. Were you trying? Well....not exactly. From the beginning I have felt pretty strongly that we were not in control of this whole baby-making situation. I have known many women who got pregnant on birth control, or when they didn't even know they could, and those who "planned" it and then it has taken longer than hoped. I've just always been pretty sure that when the Lord determined we were ready, He'd ...

Baby Boy #3!

We are expecting baby boy #3 and since I documented a good amount of my pregnancies with the older two, I want to at least start off giving this one the same treatment! I am due May 25th, though he'll probably come around the 18th by c-section. We found out in my 18 week appointment that we were having a boy and I can honestly say I've been super excited since. With two older brothers already ruining, I mean running, the house, I'm happy to bring another boy into our crazy. This pregnancy will always be remembered by having to have my gall bladder removed at week 11. As soon as I hit 6 weeks I started having intense gall bladder pain. I've dealt with gall stones since Canon was born, but they were always singular events that would pass in about 4 hours, and this pain was consistent and all day/night long. The doctors I saw encouraged me to manage it with diet and hope to get to 16 weeks before discussing surgery. I tried everything, which pretty much meant eating noth...

what's going on

We're starting to try some rice cereal. I've been pretty sporadic about it, but after his 6 month appointment (which is NEXT WEEK!) I'll start putting "solids" into our every day routine.      Canon has found his feet! Now every diaper change is just the most fun, trying to get those toes into his mouth!   Canon is officially rolling over, both sides! This particular picture happened when I had gone into my bedroom for a hot second and came out to find him on his tummy! He can do it regularly now, though he doesn't love being on his tummy and rolls back over quickly.  Other things going on: Canon is officially sleeping unswaddled!! I guess around 2 weeks ago, we started again with the one arm out and went from there. He now sleeps in a fleece sleep sack with arms. I'm not going to lie, the process wasn't quite as daunting as I had originally thought, but I think that is because we waited until he was really ready.  ...
