Canon's 2nd Birthday Party


We had the best time celebrating Canon's 2nd Birthday! Before Aaron and I had really even started discussing birthday plans, Aaron got the idea to use Canon's birthday as an excuse to host a Flag Football Game. (Lucky for Canon, his birthday falls right around the kick-off of football season, so I have a feeling this won't be the only football themed party in his life!)
I wanted to be sure we had enough entertainment for those who were bringing kids, so I found a park in Old Town with a large field and a two-story playground. Though it rained all.day.long, the sun finally peaked out about an hour before "kick-off" and we had a great time! We are so grateful to all our friends who came to celebrate and play with us! 
The party-prep was pretty easy, though probably not Pinterest worthy! We picked up table cloths, napkins, balloons, etc from Party City that went along with our football theme. I got a vegetable tray, fruit tray, chips, water and cupcakes from the grocery store and we ordered 8 large pizzas. In lieu of presents, our friends added to the mix with snacks and beer! Simple, but easy and fun.

Also to be noted, we transitioned Canon to a toddler bed on Saturday night. I'm documenting the whole experience day by day for this first week to post next week. We've had 2 awesome nights, and last night was a struggle. Let's hope it gets better!

    Sweet boy! I love the pic of him standing behind Aaron while he throws. :) and love that the party idea was Aaron's- ha! It looks like it was so fun! And I thought your decorations were perfect. Pinterest sminterest ;)

an exciting list

Now that we've had some time to settle in, we've begun to discover some of our favorite spots as well as get excited for new ones. Here is a list of things we're really excited about for our new life in Denver. First of all, sports. One of the big draws to Denver for Aaron was the professional and college sports that are in abudance here. We're especially looking forward to the Rockies vs. Giants games in September, heading up to Boulder for some CU Football and walking over to DU for their lacrosse and ice hockey games. We're also pretty pumped about going out to the new Lutheran High School on Friday nights to watch their football games! His and Hers

Aaron has officially started his second year of seminary! To commemorate, I thought I'd paste the answers to some questions we were both recently asked. A way to get an idea of both sides of our life right now. My answers: How did you spend your summer?  We had the best summer! Aaron took Hebrew in June and July, and I had my first summer as a stay at home mom. We went to the beach, pool, the library, visited Chicago and came to Alexandria twice!!  What are you most looking forward to (in your 2nd year at Seminary)?  The “cloud” over the 2nd year is getting ready for our vicarage. We’ll meet with the placement director in October and will find out the location in April! So there will be lots of hypothetical conversations, wishlists and prayers leading up to that!  Otherwise, I’m excited that we’ll be just minutes away from our church and school. I hope to get our whole family to matins more weekdays than not and Canon will begin a first communion class this ...

Fort Wayne Fun!

To be honest, when Aaron told me we were likely moving to Fort Wayne, Indiana....I wasn't thrilled at the geographical part of that statement. I didn't know much about the midwest and thought that Fort Wayne was a tiny town with lots of cows, corn and not much else. Thankfully, I was wrong! Fort Wayne is actually awesome. There are TWO Chick-fil-a's, lots of parks and playgrounds, rivers that run through, an awesome Children's zoo and much more. Here just a quick snapshot of some of the fun we've had this summer in Indiana. Camping - friends invited Aaron and the big boys on their first overnight tent camping experience! This state park was just 45 minutes from our house. I came up with the littles, then left way late to sleep in our own beds! The next morning they got to canoe! Hiking - we had a goal of hiking each Saturday morning that was free this summer, and we succeeded twice! Once in town, and once just about an hour away. So fun to be in the ...
