this day

This day, August 25th, has been on our calendar all summer. Today is the day summer ends. Aaron goes back to work (teacher work week, kids don't come til the 2nd) and Canon starts 5-day/week daycare. I'll still be working 3 days a week at the church, then a few hours either from home or on campus the other 2 days.

Its bittersweet. This day is the beginning of a new season. Our 2nd year in Alexandria, football, having a 2-year old (next THURSDAY - hold me), working more, cooler temps, schedule and routine, which we desperately need. But it also marks the end of the sweetest summer we've had. Aaron was home all summer and I only worked 3 days a week, which means Thursday - Sunday was family party time! We got to do so many fun things together, like go to the beach and camp and the sprayground, but we also spent a lot of time around the house soaking up the time we had together. As we move into this new season, and then the arrival of our next baby, I know we'll never get that time back and I am SO.GRATEFUL we had it. Canon was so fun all summer long, his vocabulary exploding along with his observance of the world around him and curiosity to figure it out. I've said recently that the transition from newborn to 1 year is expected because its so physical, but the transition from 1-2 has been harder for me. There are little traces of baby in my sweet boy and he has become just that - all boy! He can tell me what he wants, what he sees, where we are going and so much more. I know its just going to continue and he'll be less and less of that baby as the months go on. But I'm also so excited for who he is becoming. We knew we wanted him in full-time daycare this year because he craves that social interaction. I worked hard to find a place for him that had similar age kids within our budget and we are so pleased with the in-home daycare we found. He gets really excited to see his friends and to learn new songs, animals, words and to be able to play outside. He feeds off those other personalities and I knew it would be best for him. Which also means that for at least the next few months, my "stay-at-home-mom" title, though it was part-time, is over. And that is bittersweet too. However, I think I'll enjoy getting to go grocery shopping by myself without him attempting to jump out of the cart every .2 seconds!

So, August 25th, I welcome you with open arms even though you make me sad. It was a great summer season, but I know the fall will bring even more good things.

Baby Boy #3!

We are expecting baby boy #3 and since I documented a good amount of my pregnancies with the older two, I want to at least start off giving this one the same treatment! I am due May 25th, though he'll probably come around the 18th by c-section. We found out in my 18 week appointment that we were having a boy and I can honestly say I've been super excited since. With two older brothers already ruining, I mean running, the house, I'm happy to bring another boy into our crazy. This pregnancy will always be remembered by having to have my gall bladder removed at week 11. As soon as I hit 6 weeks I started having intense gall bladder pain. I've dealt with gall stones since Canon was born, but they were always singular events that would pass in about 4 hours, and this pain was consistent and all day/night long. The doctors I saw encouraged me to manage it with diet and hope to get to 16 weeks before discussing surgery. I tried everything, which pretty much meant eating noth...

22 weeks (5 months)

this kid cracks me up Just like every mom, I say this every month, but I can't believe he is already 5 months! I'm not going to lie, this event has really caused me to kick my mommy-ness into gear. It is time to get this kid together, ha! So this week I have been really intentional about making sure we get lots of tummy time in, practicing rolling over, lots of time in the bumbo chair and on the couch sitting up and being super silly to pull out those giggles! And honestly, we're having the best time! Not that I wasn't doing these things before, but I had a bit more laid back approach assuming that he'll just learn things on his own. And he will, but now I'm just more up in his face pushing him along! We got over being sick, for the most part, at the end of last week. Since he had been sick, I'd been rocking him a lot more, going into his room during naps/nighttime almost every time he cried, putting the pacifier back in his mouth, etc. Well, let me t...

His and Hers

Aaron has officially started his second year of seminary! To commemorate, I thought I'd paste the answers to some questions we were both recently asked. A way to get an idea of both sides of our life right now. My answers: How did you spend your summer?  We had the best summer! Aaron took Hebrew in June and July, and I had my first summer as a stay at home mom. We went to the beach, pool, the library, visited Chicago and came to Alexandria twice!!  What are you most looking forward to (in your 2nd year at Seminary)?  The “cloud” over the 2nd year is getting ready for our vicarage. We’ll meet with the placement director in October and will find out the location in April! So there will be lots of hypothetical conversations, wishlists and prayers leading up to that!  Otherwise, I’m excited that we’ll be just minutes away from our church and school. I hope to get our whole family to matins more weekdays than not and Canon will begin a first communion class this ...
