Well, his 1 week post turned into his 1 month post which has now turned into his 2 month post! I'm going to try to recap as much as I can remember for my own benefit.
Sam is the best baby. He has slept very well since birth and he's only waking up once or twice at night right now! We never had any long hours of walking/bouncing/rocking him and from the beginning he has typically gone back to sleep well. I've begun to notice that when he hasn't had enough sleep, it tends to mean he's restless from about 5am - 7am. He was clocking a solid 4-5 hours of sleep during the first 6 weeks, typically from like 9-1, but now we've finally been able to move his bedtime up and he'll do 7-2ish. While I'm not great at putting myself to bed early, it is such a difference for me emotionally to put him to sleep earlier and know that I've got the rest of the evening to myself. I moved him into the big boys room probably around 5 weeks and it has been going really well. I do respond to him pretty quickly at night, but so far no one has really woken anyone up at too early of an hour. The big boys still keep each other up at night, or wake each other up in the morning, but that was the case before Sam came along! He is taking 4 naps during the day and they totally vary. If we're not in the car, then I always start him in his room in the Rock n Play. That lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour and a half, and then I will move him down to the Mamaroo to get whatever left out of that nap as I can. We try really hard to stay on an Eat, Activity, Sleep schedule, so the goal is to get him to sleep until it has been 2.5-3 hours since his last feeding. With Canon especially I would have been super stressed about him not sleeping in a stationary position, but I've relaxed over the past 4 years and if he needs to sleep while moving, fine :) *updated, our Pediatrician just said he needs to start sleeping in his crib and spending more time flat on his back, so maybe we'll work on that next week! You'll see below, we really love the rock n play and the mamaroo!
He was baptized on June 11, 2017. Aaron's parents, along with his brother Alex and his wife Ashley, came into town. Hopefully I can get my act together to do a post on that, but if not, it was a really wonderful ritual and a great weekend with our family and friends! We love our church and we are so glad to have found a community that really does celebrate families and new babies!
Right at about a month I started back at work very part-time. Since I work at my kids' daycare and I was dropping them off every morning, I built in a few hours of work time into my maternity leave. As the Enrollment Coordinator, these summer months gearing up for the new school year are actually my busiest, so taking back over e-mail, filing, offering spots, etc has been pretty necessary. As long as I set good boundaries, it's a great set up. Everyone sleeps in as late as they want (which is anywhere from 6:30 - 7:30) and we don't have to rush out the door. A normal day has me leaving with all 3 around 8/8:15 and clocking into work around 8:45. I either stay through his nap and leave in time to nurse again at home, or nurse him in my office and work through his "activity" time and leave when he wants to fall sleep. Most days we are home for that 2nd nap. It is a lot to juggle, but totally worth it and I am super grateful I have a job that allows me the flexibility to work as I can. Sam will start full-time with the new school year, right after Labor Day.
He has started smiling and giving us good eye contact! The boys love to kiss him and show him things. I will remember that at one of Canon's t-ball games he had me bring Sam over in the stroller (from the playground where I was watching Ben) so that Sam could watch him play! Ben has also told all the teachers and kids in his class all about "baby Sam" and they are very happy to see him in the hallway in the mornings! What proud big brothers!
At his 2-month check up he weight 11lbs 10oz, though he fell from the 50th to the 40th percentile since his 2 week appointment. My doctor suggested I give him a bottle of formula after his bedtime nursing. She tried to disguise it as "and he'll sleep longer for you!", but I do think she wants to see him maintain that percentile curve. Canon dropped percentiles significantly between his 2 month and 4 month appointments, so I'm fine doing whatever it takes to maintain his growth. I think we were already supplementing at bedtime with Ben at this point as well. I'm also probably going to start pumping before I go to bed too, to keep up my supply and start a freezer stash. I have a big work deadline at the end of July and I'll probably have to leave Sam with Aaron a few afternoons to make that happen. Aaron is only working until 1pm this summer and having him home in the afternoons and to pick up the boys has been amazing!
I am loving having a summer baby! Maternity leave in the summer is just so much more relaxing and fun than in the winter. We spend a lot of afternoons and weekends outside watching the big boys play and we get in some good walks when its not too hot! He doesn't mind being worn in the Solly wrap which makes outings so much easier! Sweet Sam has been a great addition to our family! He is pretty much what you want out of a 3rd kid, easy-going, calm and low maintenance!

(Clearly we love our Mamroo!)
