We Bought a House!

I still can hardly believe I am even writing those words! The past few weeks have been a crazy whirlwind of phone calls and paperwork and e-mails that all led up to this! Mostly what I have to say is the Lord really provided this one. Without getting into too much detail, it was the right amount of house at the right time with the right people. We are so thankful for His provision and also for all the people who have been involved in this.

We offered late April and moved Memorial Day weekend, so we went by the house almost every weekend until move-in day. We would go in the side gate and play around in the back yard.

Aaron packed up most of our things while I was away at the beach (bless him!). We were SUPER grateful to have about 8 guys come help on move-in day, so in all it only took about 3 hours to pack up the old place and unpack into the new place. It took us a full week before we got the boys room somewhat together and we are still very slowly getting the rest of the house together. We've got 30 years, right ;)

What sold me on this house was the kitchen/first floor. The house is a duplex in a neighborhood, so they were all built with the same layout. Somewhere along the road, this particular one was renovated and the kitchen and dining room were swapped. What makes this such a big deal is that in the original layout there was a wall in between the kitchen and living room and it had both the door to the backyard and the door to the basement in it, causing little counter space and not great flow. Here is an example of one on the market now that has been updated, but with the kitchen in the original layout.

See how much room they lose with that door? And the kitchen is closed off to the dining room.

As you can see below, our kitchen now has a lot of counter space with two big windows, and the doors are now in the dining room! I think this makes a much better layout! We may have lost some cabinet space, but the open concept makes it worth it!

Basement:

Also very excited to have a basement to throw all the toys. It still looks pretty much like this!

Kitchen/Dining/Living while we were definitely still unpacking...

There is a deck outside the back door and we've already been eating most of our meals outside! The boys are happy to have their water table back to play with and space to run around, scooter, play baseball, etc.

I actually really enjoy sitting out on the front and letting the boys play and neighbor watching!
We've been really enjoying the neighborhood too! There is a walking trail that leads us to 2 playgrounds and a huge park with a little pond to walk around. We can also walk to the library!

This was the view on my walk the other morning coming back from the pond!

We definitely have a long way to go in terms of unpacking and making it our style. While it may not be brand new, huge or totally updated, we really can't say enough about how much it already feels like home! We are incredibly grateful to those that helped us get here and to the Lord for weaving all the pieces together!

  1. I just bought a house this month, too, and it was the best investment I’ve ever made. I love the smell of my house, its look from all corners, and the trees surrounding it. It really is quite a unique feeling to finally have something to show for after working all these years. Thanks for sharing.

Baby Boy #3!

We are expecting baby boy #3 and since I documented a good amount of my pregnancies with the older two, I want to at least start off giving this one the same treatment! I am due May 25th, though he'll probably come around the 18th by c-section. We found out in my 18 week appointment that we were having a boy and I can honestly say I've been super excited since. With two older brothers already ruining, I mean running, the house, I'm happy to bring another boy into our crazy. This pregnancy will always be remembered by having to have my gall bladder removed at week 11. As soon as I hit 6 weeks I started having intense gall bladder pain. I've dealt with gall stones since Canon was born, but they were always singular events that would pass in about 4 hours, and this pain was consistent and all day/night long. The doctors I saw encouraged me to manage it with diet and hope to get to 16 weeks before discussing surgery. I tried everything, which pretty much meant eating noth...

22 weeks (5 months)

this kid cracks me up Just like every mom, I say this every month, but I can't believe he is already 5 months! I'm not going to lie, this event has really caused me to kick my mommy-ness into gear. It is time to get this kid together, ha! So this week I have been really intentional about making sure we get lots of tummy time in, practicing rolling over, lots of time in the bumbo chair and on the couch sitting up and being super silly to pull out those giggles! And honestly, we're having the best time! Not that I wasn't doing these things before, but I had a bit more laid back approach assuming that he'll just learn things on his own. And he will, but now I'm just more up in his face pushing him along! We got over being sick, for the most part, at the end of last week. Since he had been sick, I'd been rocking him a lot more, going into his room during naps/nighttime almost every time he cried, putting the pacifier back in his mouth, etc. Well, let me t...

His and Hers

Aaron has officially started his second year of seminary! To commemorate, I thought I'd paste the answers to some questions we were both recently asked. A way to get an idea of both sides of our life right now. My answers: How did you spend your summer?  We had the best summer! Aaron took Hebrew in June and July, and I had my first summer as a stay at home mom. We went to the beach, pool, the library, visited Chicago and came to Alexandria twice!!  What are you most looking forward to (in your 2nd year at Seminary)?  The “cloud” over the 2nd year is getting ready for our vicarage. We’ll meet with the placement director in October and will find out the location in April! So there will be lots of hypothetical conversations, wishlists and prayers leading up to that!  Otherwise, I’m excited that we’ll be just minutes away from our church and school. I hope to get our whole family to matins more weekdays than not and Canon will begin a first communion class this ...
