Canon's Last Day of School

I can't say enough about this past year of school for Canon. He was in Ms. Gaby's class with 15 other kids and was the 2nd to youngest.
I tell this story to perspective parents at my job all the time about when he started. I had a quick conversation with Ms. Gaby about the "academic" things I wanted him to learn by the end of the year, especially writing his name. She stopped and looked at me and said "give me 6 months to work on some other things, and then in the spring we can check back in". Okay, I trusted her.
Turns out, she of course, was so right. Over the course of this year Canon has learned to write his name and lots of letters. But, more importantly, he learned about being a good friend, playing with others, communicating his feelings, using his words instead of his hands, and so much more. He learned about architecture and insects and community helpers and his vocabulary expanded a ton! We do High/Scope curriculum and much to my pleasure, he always wants to know the plan! We played t-ball with kids from his class and had many birthday parties/playdates, etc to build those friendships.
Wednesday before Labor Day was Canon's last day in Ms. Gaby's class. The importance of the day didn't really affect him (since it as all the students last day in her class, but Canon was the only student not returning the following week), but I wanted to snap a few photos and remember. We'll always appreciate Ms. Gaby and all she taught him!

His and Hers

Aaron has officially started his second year of seminary! To commemorate, I thought I'd paste the answers to some questions we were both recently asked. A way to get an idea of both sides of our life right now. My answers: How did you spend your summer?  We had the best summer! Aaron took Hebrew in June and July, and I had my first summer as a stay at home mom. We went to the beach, pool, the library, visited Chicago and came to Alexandria twice!!  What are you most looking forward to (in your 2nd year at Seminary)?  The “cloud” over the 2nd year is getting ready for our vicarage. We’ll meet with the placement director in October and will find out the location in April! So there will be lots of hypothetical conversations, wishlists and prayers leading up to that!  Otherwise, I’m excited that we’ll be just minutes away from our church and school. I hope to get our whole family to matins more weekdays than not and Canon will begin a first communion class this ...

22 weeks (5 months)

this kid cracks me up Just like every mom, I say this every month, but I can't believe he is already 5 months! I'm not going to lie, this event has really caused me to kick my mommy-ness into gear. It is time to get this kid together, ha! So this week I have been really intentional about making sure we get lots of tummy time in, practicing rolling over, lots of time in the bumbo chair and on the couch sitting up and being super silly to pull out those giggles! And honestly, we're having the best time! Not that I wasn't doing these things before, but I had a bit more laid back approach assuming that he'll just learn things on his own. And he will, but now I'm just more up in his face pushing him along! We got over being sick, for the most part, at the end of last week. Since he had been sick, I'd been rocking him a lot more, going into his room during naps/nighttime almost every time he cried, putting the pacifier back in his mouth, etc. Well, let me t...

Augustine Oliver Schultz

Early November 9th, we welcomed our fourth son, Augustine Oliver Schultz into the world! He was another scheduled c-section, at 39 weeks and 1 day. He weighed 9lbs 1oz, coming in 2nd only to Ben in terms of birth weight! My mom came into town the Tuesday beforehand and we checked lots of things off our list. With the exception of organizing clothes (thanks friends!), I had literally done nothing to get ready. We cleaned the room that will become his bedroom, separated clothes and swaddles, bought a changing table/dresser combo and she even gifted us a deep freezer! It was a very productive 2 1/2 days! The night before we continued a tradition of eating out at a mexican restaurant. Then came home and did all our normal bedtime routines. The boys knew that when they woke up they would be with my mom and we would be at the hospital. Before we all went to bed, we ended up around the dining table brainstorming more names. Going into the summer/fall we were somewhat set on Ari August...
