the christmas story

I know I have so much Thanksgiving to update everyone on, but that will just have to wait. I came upon this video via a friend's blog and it is amazing. Enjoy!

marriage getaway

As promised, I'm back to talk about the wonderful weekend Aaron and I had in Estes Park, CO. It was the first weekend in November and we are so happy we went! A little background of how we got there. I lead a Bible Study through the college ministry of First Pres. Boulder and early in October my girls and I went to a women's ministry night on Transitions. It was pretty great, considering I am in a huge transition right now! At the end of the night a woman stood up and mentioned she had a free registration gift for any engaged or married woman for this weekend. Well, you know I was jumping up and down in my seat! I practically raced over to her once she sat down and told her how much I would love to go! We chatted for a bit and she gave me the gift! The gift was worth about $350 for registration, but we had to pay for our hotel and food. I'll tell you what though, if we ever get to a point when we can just pay the entire trip, we will. It was that good. There were 10

confession

The weight of lies will bring you down And follow you to every town Cause nothing happens here that doesn’t happen there So when you run make sure you run To something and not away from Cause lies don’t need an aeroplane to chase you anywhere   - The Weight of Lies by The Avett Brothers These lyrics have been in my head pretty much since we moved to Colorado. Both Aaron and I were so looking forward to our move here. We definitely withheld it in our minds that once we moved to Colorado, the negative things that were affecting our relationship and our lives individually would be gone. By leaving the New Orleans culture of eating out and coming to the Colorado culture of outdoor activity and exercise, surely we would be inspired to get in shape and lose some weight! Getting a place on our own (we had a roommate in New Orleans for 6 months, which was definitely a blessing!) would help our romance as a couple. Starting a new school year would clearly help us be more intentiona

happy fall decorating

We had our first dinner guests last night! It was super fun to host and even more exciting to get our house ready for guests! I got to go to Bed Bath & Beyond and Target and shop for new, holiday appropriate table ware and accessories! Woohoo!!! Our apartment is slowly, but surely, feeling more like home! Here are some pictures of a few updates I pulled together last night and some we did a few weeks ago. I bought these initials back in September. Now we'll never get our towels confused :) I finally got some of our wedding pictures printed in frame-able sizes! Though our collage is not finished, I'm happy with the progress! Another necessary need we finally filled was something for our "foyer". A place to drop keys, mail, notes and laundry money. We bought the window frame in New Orleans and the shelf and basket from Target. I love it!  I updated our couch pillows yesterday as well! I love all the different colors!

it is finally over....kind of

30-Day Challenge to Eat at HOME! Finally, our 30 Day Challenge to Eat at Home is over! Today = day 30 and I couldn't be more excited. We've done pretty well, but I have to admit, we did not make it the whole 30 days. But I promise we have really good excuses for why! haha. The first "cheat" came earlier in October. The Rocky Mountain Lutheran School District hosted a conference in Breckenridge and Aaron's school graciously took both of us up there! (PS, if you click on the link, the 5th picture in feature's Aaron's little brother, Alex! He is the one in the middle on the right side!) So, for 3 days, we were happily stuck in a beautiful hotel/conference center in the mountains, watching the leaves change and the first snow of the season! We were there 2 nights and really had no choice but to eat out! We made sure not to go crazy just because it was a bit of a "free weekend"!! We enjoyed good meals with fellow teachers and st

my not-so-secret love affair

A few weeks ago, we had the HUGE privilege of going to 2 of the Rockies v. Giants game here in Colorado. Aaron has always been a Giants fan and his best childhood memories are driving up to San Francisco with his family to see the Giants play. When we got married, I knew I would be adopting this team as my own. Luckily for me, the Giants won the World Series last year so it hasn't been very hard to get excited about them. And, as a young female, Brian Wilson certainly has helped :) Not only is he a great pitcher, he is quirky, funny, weird and SO CUTE! He has unfortunately been on the DL for most of this year, but made his return for one inning during their game against the Rockies. Yes, I had my camera. Yes, I was screaming. Yes, I went running down toward the field to get the best pictures I could. Here, mixed in with some other game photos, documents my love affair. Oh, and by the way, I majorly cut down the amount of pictures for the post - I have tons more! yesssssss

challenge update and a surprise!

30-Day Challenge to Eat at HOME! Today marks 10 days of the "Eat at Home Challenge". I am glad to announce that so far, we've made it! I will admit, this weekend was challenging and we were definitely missing our Saturday Chick-fil-a! Aaron did want to take a walk to 7-eleven on Saturday afternoon, but restricted himself to just a Rolling Stone magazine.  I'm proud of us and hope that we can build on this success for the next 20 days! I've been collecting recipes that are quick and easy and I must say that I think the realization that making dinner doesn't have to be a huge ordeal has certainly helped in this challenge. For the first few months of our marriage, I placed and unnecessary expectation on myself to make these amazing, from scratch, big meals for us. Well, I'll tell you what, that got us no where except stressed and upset! I've enjoyed this past week of having the refrigerator, freezer and pantry stocked so tha

Clemson WINS!

Wishing I had been here this weekend. It was a great game by the Clemson Tigers and I could not have been more excited to see us upset Auburn's winning streak. After our loss at Auburn last year, which was Aaron's first Clemson game, it was sweet to see us play well and WIN! As ESPN reported "...it was Clemson that proved to be the better team" C-L-E-M-S-O-N!!!

through the eyes of a 4 year old

A few weeks ago we got the chance to go to our first Rockies game! We were SO excited. They played the Marlins and won in the 9th inning! It was a surprising ending, that is for sure. We also had the pleasure of meeting some great kids who attend our church. Of course I was hanging out and talking with them and when I pulled out my camera to take some pictures, well, you know what happened next. So, yes, I spent a good portion of that game letting children under 5 use my camera. I was sure to keep them near me and tried to keep my hand under the camera at all times! One special girl we met was Alexandra Jonte. She is 4 years old and has leukemia. She has been battling it for about 2 1/2 years now and is back in the hospital with a bone marrow transplant scheduled in a few weeks. She is amazing and took some amazing pictures! She was super friendly, outgoing and loved having the camera around her neck. Here are the pics from the evening. Some are mine, but most are hers. Enjoy!
