Sam - 6 months

What a happy baby he is! Here are the highlights! The months of October and November were overshadowed by trying to figure out some tummy issues he was having. We went to the pediatrician a number of times and finally went to Nutramigen formula for about 8 weeks. He made the switch pretty well and things finally cleared up (or should I say stopped up!) We made the switch back to Enfamil Gentlease just before Christmas and its been going well enough Two bottom teeth came in the first few weeks of October! Daycare had him start solid foods - so he started eating once a day mainly apples and bananas, then some carrots and sweet potatoes Minus the nights he was awake with tummy issues, he got on a pretty good routine of only waking up once a night, between 2am-4am for a bottle, and sleeping until 7am. I can definitely handle once a night wake-ups and Aaron was happy to do a few feedings too!  He started (?) and continues to sleep on his belly and can roll over every which way

Thanksgiving 2017

This Thanksgiving took us to Charlottesville to visit my sister and her family. They just moved into a brand new house in October that is spacious enough to hold our 6 boys and all the crazy that comes with that! It was such a fun time and I continue to be so grateful that my boys are growing up so close to their cousins!  Robert made a turkey as well as green bean casserole. I made slow-cooker garlic parmesan mashed potatoes. My mom did sweet potatoes, apple cranberry casserole, grape salad and Amanda made pies. It was a feast!

Halloween 2017

We had an awesome time trick-or-treating with our friends this year! This is the 3rd year we have spent the evening with them - it is funny how things just become traditions without even realizing it!  And because I love some good comparisons photos...

Ben - 3 things

My sweet Ben. You are closing in on 3 now (just 2 more months), but I want to write about your 2nd year before we move on to another! 1. Over the course of the spring and summer, I would say your vocabulary, articulation and emotion really took off. You can express everything you need and talk almost as much as your brother! You are funny and silly and kind. You give big hugs unprompted and just yesterday said to me "Mommy, you are my best friend!" The first child to say that to me, by the way. 2. You love school and had no problem transitioning to a new classroom this year. You are in the Butterflies, but keep telling me it is the "big boy" class. And each day when we pass your old room you say "that's my old class, when I was 2". 3. Over Columbus Day weekend we did the 3-day potty training bootcamp. You rocked it! We told you all week long that we were going to throw away your diapers and you were so excited to get underwear. Armed with juice a

Canon turns 5!

On September 4th Canon turned 5! Playing catch-up.... I can hardly believe I have a 5 year old. Turning 5 and starting Kindergarten all in the same week definitely makes me feel like I have a big kid on my hands. We had a great summer and there were a lot of moments when I could see a mature, independent, responsible little boy emerge. Canon love super heroes and Star Wars. He knows who Bryce Harper is and loves looking at Aaron's old baseball cards. He is starting to put together letter sounds and loves sounding out words to read and to write. He will play by himself only on the weekends when he has an hour of rest time in the basement, or if we go to my mom's house! Otherwise he wants us or Ben to be right there with him. On his birthday he opened a big playmobile camping playset. We met my mom for milkshakes and french fries by the water, then had a cake for him at a teacher gathering that night. The next weekend we had friends over for pizza and cupcakes, which of co

Sam - 2 Months

Well, his 1 week post turned into his 1 month post which has now turned into his 2 month post! I'm going to try to recap as much as I can remember for my own benefit. Sam is the best baby. He has slept very well since birth and he's only waking up once or twice at night right now! We never had any long hours of walking/bouncing/rocking him and from the beginning he has typically gone back to sleep well. I've begun to notice that when he hasn't had enough sleep, it tends to mean he's restless from about 5am - 7am. He was clocking a solid 4-5 hours of sleep during the first 6 weeks, typically from like 9-1, but now we've finally been able to move his bedtime up and he'll do 7-2ish. While I'm not great at putting myself to bed early, it is such a difference for me emotionally to put him to sleep earlier and know that I've got the rest of the evening to myself. I moved him into the big boys room probably around 5 weeks and it has been going reall
