Canon's 2nd Birthday

I can't believe I have a 2 year old! As I sat rocking him last Wednesday night, his last night as a 1 year old, with his legs draped across my lap, I couldn't help but reminisce about all the hours I've spent rocking him in that same chair over the last 2 years. From swaddle, to sleep sack, to PJs and now even sometimes with tennis shoes on, he's grown so much since then! I've said it multiple times, the physical changes that have happened over this year have been harder on me than the previous one's. There is little baby left in my sweet boy, exchanged for a rowdy, wild, sometimes stubborn toddler who loves people, an audience and anything that he can throw! Aaron and I joke that the parenting part of this whole journey is really just now beginning and I'm excited to see what will happen this upcoming year.

For his actual birthday, we started the morning with coffee & breakfast with our favorite neighbors, Meg and Avery. Canon and I played on the playground a bit, I took him by Aaron's school to see his new class, then dropped him at daycare so I could work a bit. I picked him up in the afternoon and after playing at the playground some more, MoMo came over! She brought lots of play food for his new kitchen that we picked up from ILS and then we headed to her house for dinner and a sleepover.

Lest you think we didn't do anything exciting for his big day, we are hosting a Birthday Party/Flag Football Game this weekend to celebrate and I'm sure he will be delighted to entertain all the friends that are coming!

Fort Wayne Fun!

To be honest, when Aaron told me we were likely moving to Fort Wayne, Indiana....I wasn't thrilled at the geographical part of that statement. I didn't know much about the midwest and thought that Fort Wayne was a tiny town with lots of cows, corn and not much else. Thankfully, I was wrong! Fort Wayne is actually awesome. There are TWO Chick-fil-a's, lots of parks and playgrounds, rivers that run through, an awesome Children's zoo and much more. Here just a quick snapshot of some of the fun we've had this summer in Indiana. Camping - friends invited Aaron and the big boys on their first overnight tent camping experience! This state park was just 45 minutes from our house. I came up with the littles, then left way late to sleep in our own beds! The next morning they got to canoe! Hiking - we had a goal of hiking each Saturday morning that was free this summer, and we succeeded twice! Once in town, and once just about an hour away. So fun to be in the ...

22 weeks (5 months)

this kid cracks me up Just like every mom, I say this every month, but I can't believe he is already 5 months! I'm not going to lie, this event has really caused me to kick my mommy-ness into gear. It is time to get this kid together, ha! So this week I have been really intentional about making sure we get lots of tummy time in, practicing rolling over, lots of time in the bumbo chair and on the couch sitting up and being super silly to pull out those giggles! And honestly, we're having the best time! Not that I wasn't doing these things before, but I had a bit more laid back approach assuming that he'll just learn things on his own. And he will, but now I'm just more up in his face pushing him along! We got over being sick, for the most part, at the end of last week. Since he had been sick, I'd been rocking him a lot more, going into his room during naps/nighttime almost every time he cried, putting the pacifier back in his mouth, etc. Well, let me t...

His and Hers

Aaron has officially started his second year of seminary! To commemorate, I thought I'd paste the answers to some questions we were both recently asked. A way to get an idea of both sides of our life right now. My answers: How did you spend your summer?  We had the best summer! Aaron took Hebrew in June and July, and I had my first summer as a stay at home mom. We went to the beach, pool, the library, visited Chicago and came to Alexandria twice!!  What are you most looking forward to (in your 2nd year at Seminary)?  The “cloud” over the 2nd year is getting ready for our vicarage. We’ll meet with the placement director in October and will find out the location in April! So there will be lots of hypothetical conversations, wishlists and prayers leading up to that!  Otherwise, I’m excited that we’ll be just minutes away from our church and school. I hope to get our whole family to matins more weekdays than not and Canon will begin a first communion class this ...
